Spare The Rod, Spoil The Child....Use The Rod, Scar The Child ?

"Spare the rod, spoil the child" Africans really seem to dig this this particular passage from The Holy Bible, At least in my house we did. My Mum, whom I love to pieces by the way, used to keep different levels of "koboko" In fact it got to a point my siblings and I nicknamed her The Slapping Machine, she sure knows how to slap you till you are sober and the funny thing is with each beating came that particular verse of The Holy Book and... "I am only bringing you up in the right way, If I don't beat you now life will beat you in the future...Next time you want to misbehave you will think of this scar and change your mind" But really, how true is this? Do you have to scar a child for life to teach him the right thing ? Does beating really have that much effect on kids ? Does it deter anyone from stealing that meat from the pot or checking your mummy's purse for some change? I for one wasn't deterred.
On the other hand, This Bible passage don't apply to some, especially the westerners or people who are trying to westernize their ways. They don't even smack ! they give time-outs lol or Ground the child. Taaaa ! I once witnessed an encounter, My neighbor was s'posed to go for a wedding with her kids this woman had been begging them all day to get ready and stuff but they were playing around she started screaming and her second child, a boy, 15 0r thereabout told her to chill out and stop embarrassing herself, I swear down I was expecting her to go "what" and throw some tantrums she just went solo and begged them to please get ready. I trust my mum though, London police or not she would have slapped me ni. I see kids here telling there mums or dads to shut up and they actually stop talking. white folks cool na their way be that but as a Nigerian, your kid tells you to shut up and you do? oh bloody well *lips sealed*
I really don't know which way works best to beat or not to beat ? I see some scars on my arms and back and they make me angry that I was beaten but I think I'd rather my mum beats my life out than telling her to shut up or stop embarrassing herself .....'Nuff said -_-
