The Music Of The world Vs The Music Of The Lord

Okay, Sunday morning I was getting ready for church and my phone vibrated in my purse I had received a message from a mate of mine. the first thing that came to mind was to delete it straight up. Why, you wonder? She stays sending BCs like Crazy. This particular BC caught my eyes though, 'twas about Lady Gaga's Alejandro and how singing it makes you just as much a sinner as Lady Gaga herself...I was puzzled. As a child yea, I grew up listening to songs from a walks of life, My Mum happens to be a minister in her Church but she didn't for once encourage or discourage any genre of music (sometimes, she sings along to the ol'skool numbers sef ) We were just taught to balance and filter everything we watch and digest.
I believe as a true christian, Muslim or believer of God its all about your mindset what you listen to or watch doesn't make or mar your journey to heaven, don't get me wrong though I am not pro secular music, honestly, I am on the fence I can't be bothered about the genre of a song as long as it is good music. But I still think a man should not be judged based on what he listens to 'cause if that was the case then only people that listen to "God kind of music" will make heaven then? pfft bollocks ! It is the HEART not the MUSIC people. Don't
deprive yourselves of good music.. Worship God with a true heart and you will make heaven, Simples !

  1. Christians will have to come up with a good definition of "secular" music!. .what makes a song secular? the absence of the name of Jesus? the presence of profanity? How about the absence of both?

Is the national anthem secular? if not why not? would it be more secular if instead of pledging loyality to country, it contains wordings that pledge your love to someone?

Christians should stop seeing things in black and white, i doubt if God is bothered by the genre of songs!

  2. God said to worship Him in spirit and in truth! There are songs that don't edify the spirit as well as songs that do. We live in a world where evil is more open about its identity than ever before. Also considering the story Lucifer was in charge of music before he was sent down here (never confirmed this myself), its logical that's his forte and hence its why we should be critical of it. There are songs that raise bad emotions such as anger, vengance, pride and so on, would listening to such songs help one in an already violent world? (read col 3:8-10 and eph 5:4) Reading columns on www.vigilantcitizen.com has given me a different view on things that is hard to explain simply because of what 1 corinthians 2:14 says. Secular is just something NOT concerned with religion and so there is nothing wrong in certain secular songs but be watchful and obey Ps 119:11 and you should be fine...:D
